fisherDr. David Fisher is an orthopedic surgeon and director of the Total Joint Center of Excellence at the Indiana Orthopedic Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also manages the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation, a leading grant-making organization that has provided $142 million in research funding.

The surgeon specializes in joint replacement and arthroscopic procedures.

Fisher, an Indiana native, earned an undergraduate degree from DePauw University and completed his M.D. in 1982 at Indiana University. He went on to intern at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and, in 1987, finished his residency at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Indiana University. Fisher also completed a year-long joint-implant fellowship at St. Anthony Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

He served as director of Total Joint Service at Methodist Hospital from 1988 to 2006. In the years since, the surgeon has worked at the Indiana Orthopedic Hospital. Fisher is also affiliated with two other local hospitals: St. Vincent and OrthoIndy Hospital.

Fisher is recognized as a key surgical talent within the orthopedic community and regularly ranks as one of the best knee surgeons in the country. He performs around 500 orthopedic procedures per year and, over his 30-year career, has amassed an outcomes database with more than 14,000 patients.

Fisher is also a voracious academic and researcher and often participates in trials for the Federal Food and Drug Administration. Over the years, the surgeon has assembled an expansive scholarly portfolio that includes published work on a variety of subjects, from computer-assisted surgery to hip-wound closure. Fisher also serves as an assistant professor of surgery at the Indiana University Medical School.

Through it all, he works to provide patients with quality care.

“My mission is to attempt to alleviate pain and suffering for patients afflicted with arthritis and similar joint diseases,” Fisher said.
