Dr. Kevin Bozic of the UT Austin Medical School is a leading figure in the orthopedic community. He currently serves as the inaugural chair of the department of surgery and perioperative care and a professor of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas at Austin’s Dell Medical School.
Bozic earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering at Duke University in North Carolina and his MD at the University of California at San Francisco. After medical school he completed a Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program and did a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. In addition to his medical education, Bozic also earned a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
While he is currently at UT Austin, Bozic recently filled the position of the William R. Murray Professor Endowed Chair in Orthopedic Surgery and Professor and Vice Chair at UCSF. He formerly served as a chair of the California Joint Replacement Registry and is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation. Bozic’s decorated career has included a number of honors and awards, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeon’s Clinician-Scientist Traveling Fellowship Award and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeon’s James A. Rand Young Investigator Award.
His primary areas of clinical interest are in reconstructive hip and knee procedures in adults, and the overall management of arthritis in these joints in patients. His numerous research projects have diverged from solely clinical medicine and expanded into areas of policy and services research, such as cost-efficiency in medicine and the evaluation of value-based payments. He has been involved in a number of regional and national initiatives in healthcare, including the American Joint Replacement Registry and the Integrated Healthcare Association’s Episode of Care Payment Program. He has also published a number of papers on topics such as value-based healthcare, value-based payment models and patient-reported outcomes.
